The overpopulation of cats and dogs can be stopped and finally prevented by increasing the number of accessible, affordable and targeted high-quality high-volume spay and neuter clinics. 

 

Sterilization humanely reduces the cat and dog populations, while vaccinations prevent the spread of disease and reduce pain and suffering.

 

The current United States animal welfare system kills hundreds of thousands of cats and dogs every year. This is not animal welfare, it is the systematic, organized and even worse, socially accepted killing of millions of beautiful, sentient beings: cats and dogs. 

 

The programs that try to handle the current overpopulation of cats and dogs would not need to exist, or be funded, to the degree that they are now. These programs become self-serving if we are not prioritizing spay/neuter and contraceptives. 
 

Self-serving programs are not charity programs. 

 

Funding and prioritizing spay/neuter and contraceptives does work, as this is a solution-based strategy. It is a prevention program that we know works as we have data.
